My carvings don’t necessarily represent animals or spirits found in traditional native art, but my art is neither traditional nor native. When I was two, my parents adopted my younger brother whom is of Interior Salish descent. As they wanted him to be connected with his heritage, my childhood experience included native culture and art.
As a caucasian artist inspired by First Nation’s art and contemporary design, my goal is to present abstract images asking the viewer what they symbolize. Hopefully, every individual will see something different.
